(OTTAWA) – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich – Gulf Islands, issued the following statement to mark International Day of Pink against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, and transphobia:
“International Day of Pink is a chance to celebrate diversity, end discrimination, and take a stand against ignorance and intolerance. We must remind Canadians who have been bullied that their community supports them.
“Today on International Day of Pink, the Green Party and I call for an end to bullying. I hope all Canadians will join me tomorrow to spread this message of hope.”
Bruce Hyer, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay – Superior North, continued:
“Unfortunately, many youth in Canada have to face homophobia and bullying at school. This is absolutely unacceptable. As Canadians, we must do everything we can to celebrate our diversity and create a more tolerant society.
“Events like the Day of Pink are crucial to educating both youth and adults about how we can stand up to bullying, prevent discrimination, and ensure that every Canadian teen has the support they need to reach their full potential, regardless of their sexual orientation.
“I encourage all Canadians to join us on the Day of Pink to add their voices to the fight for a more inclusive society.”
