Green Party of Canada Statement for Daffodil Month

(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich – Gulf Islands, issued the following statement for Daffodil Month:

“For many, the daffodil symbolizes courage, hope, and unity in our fight against cancer. I commend the work of the Canadian Cancer Society for the vital work they do to advance cancer research and prevention.

“Their efforts let Canadians and their families know they are not alone as they face a devastating diagnosis.”

Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and the party’s Health Critic, continued:

“The Green Party of Canada supports the efforts of the Canadian Cancer Society. I urge all Canadians to buy a bouquet of daffodils in support of their vision to create a world where no Canadian fears cancer.

“While cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and support systems are of the upmost importance, we must invest more in cancer prevention. Although the number of newly diagnosed cancer cases is increasing in Canada, the good news is that cancer survival rates are increasing.

“The Green Party believes that reducing and preventing exposure of known carcinogens that are released into the environment can help this vision. All cancers may not be preventable, but carcinogens should not be released into our environment.”
