National Security Policy and an Open Canada: The debate over Bill-C51

Event Date

Monday, March 30, 2015 - 21:00 EDT

Event Description

Elizabeth May, Wayne Easter and Edward Conway will participate in a panel discussion on Bill C-51.

Slated as the “Anti-Terrorism Act”, this controversial bill provides Canada’s intelligence agencies with special and extrajudicial powers in the fight against terrorism. As a result, Bill C-51 has generated heated discussion among academics, activists and citizens across the political spectrum. Is Bill C-51 necessary to protect Canada from future attacks, or is it the beginning of a slippery slope towards the infringement of individual rights? These are just some of the many questions that have been raised as of late.

Join us Monday, March 30th for the next Politics at the Pub, where we will have our panelists share their political and legal expertise on this topic. The question that has been posed to them is: “how can enhanced national security policies be reconciled with a free and open Canadian society?” We hope to see you and hear your questions.
