Lyme Disease Conference in Ottawa

Elizabeth May will be attending the Federal Framework on Lyme Disease Conference in Ottawa, which was mandated by her private members' bill, the Federal Framework on Lyme Disease Act.

The conference will take place May 15 to 17, 2016, at the Government Conference Centre in Ottawa (111 Sussex Drive). It is open to the public.

Advance registration is recommended as seating is limited. However, on-site registration will be available.

Day 1: Public forum

Date: May 15, 2016

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Location: Government Conference Centre (111 Sussex Drive) in Ottawa, Ontario

Agenda: The public forum will hear from those who would like to share their personal experience with Lyme disease.

Those interested in speaking at the forum may sign up by completing the PDF fillable form. Then e-mail the completed form to the Conference Secretariat (mobile devices may require users to download a PDF app).

Those who would like to share their story but are unable to attend in-person will be able to participate online. This option is available through an interactive application. Details about this option will be provided closer to the conference date.

Day 2 and 3: Conference

Date: May 16 and 17, 2016

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Government Conference Centre (111 Sussex Drive) in Ottawa, Ontario

Agenda: The conference agenda is currently being finalized by the planning committee and will be posted once available.

Day 2 agenda includes:

  • a presentation on Lyme disease:
    • treatment
    • prevention
    • identification
    • management
  • a debrief of the public forum
  • breakout sessions for:
    • national medical surveillance
    • guidelines and best practices regarding Lyme disease:
      • treatment
      • prevention
      • identification
      • management
    • education materials and increased awareness for public health care providers

Day 3 agenda includes a:

  • continuation of breakout session discussions
  • summary of the conference with discussion on next steps

For those unable to attend day 2 and 3 in person, the conference will be available through webcast. Details about this option will be provided closer to the conference date.
