My name is John Streicker. My wife Susan and I make our little home together here in the Yukon.

For the past two elections I have been a Green Party of Canada candidate. I am a Professional Engineer, and specialist on climate change. I lecture at Yukon College, act as the science advisor for the Northern Climate ExChange and consult on shifting the energy economy in the North.

After the 2008 federal election I approached our leader and deputy leader to ask how I could contribute more to the party. Since then I have been on Cabinet as the Advocate for Arctic and Northern Affairs and co-chaired our last two national conventions. A year ago I was elected to Federal Council as a Councilor-at-Large and since that time I have been the Chair of Council.

Coming out of the 2011 federal election, the Green Party faces significant challenges and opportunities. We achieved our goal of electing our first Green MP. Elizabeth has already been showing her strength in Parliament.

I believe that the focus of the new Executive and Council will be threefold:
1. build the party at the riding level
2. make ourselves sustainable through cooperative national-local fundraising
3. empower members through the potential of Elizabeth in the house

I have strong aspirations for the Green Party and realize that the new Executive Council will have an important role in helping to shape our path forward. My intension is to bring energy, commitment, creativity, integrity and inclusiveness to the Executive and Council.

I am excited to put my name forward for the role of President of the Green Party of Canada.
