Ombuds & Appeals Committee (OAC) Members
Objective
The Ombuds and Appeals Committee investigates complaints against official levels of the Party and produces a Report and Recommendations for each case within its mandate.
Duties / Responsibilities
The Ombuds and Appeals Committee (OAC) is a standing national committee made up of volunteer members known for their deliberation skills and knowledge of fair process and party procedures. The committee assists Party members in the resolution of disputes if they have experienced difficulties with Party decisions.
OAC members must be available to receive information and engage in discussion by e-mail, to produce and revise draft reports and recommendations, and to consider other points of view.
Any Green Party volunteer must not be a member of any other political party, and is expected to:

Conduct all activities in a professional manner

Demonstrate commitment to the Six Guiding Principles of the Green Party of Canada

Adhere to the Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement
Qualifications / Skills:
Ombuds Committee members must:

be a member in good standing of the Green Party of Canada;
not hold office at any other level of the Party;

have no relationships with members who hold office at other levels of the party;

value fairness and integrity over any other particular outcomes;

be able to bring a neutral point of view to their deliberations;

maintain confidentiality regarding Ombuds investigations;

have basic computer skills, specifically word processing, internet and e-mail;

be able to work collaboratively as a team member;

be able to check and respond to e-mails at least three times a week except with prior notice to the rest of the OAC.
Time & Location
Cross-Canada committee members work from home and should be available for teleconferencing when required. Average number of cases reviewed by OAC has historically been 3-4 per year, but this varies.
Orientation / Training
General orientation by Coordinator of Volunteer Resources, National Office. Direct orientation and support to OAC provided by designated, existing Ombuds & Appeals Committee member.
