Is our country worth saving?

Its natural and right that the Green Party should be the strongest voice condemning Canada’s sabotaging of Kyoto at this juncture.  But over the long-term its been this very obsession with Global Warming that has sunk the Green Party.  For a small party to become mainstream, it has to catch the imagination and win the confidence of the public on the very issues - that matter to them

The latest ‘border-deal’ contains initiatives to streamline trade that should benefit our economies.  It also contains some very ominous ones.  The ugliest being: ‘Cross-Border enforcement’.  An extension of the ‘Ship Rider’ program which applied to shared waters; this new deal gives U.S. security forces pre-clearance, carte-blanche to enter Canada, pursue and capture ‘suspects’.  Granted the full powers of the RCMP, they are also bound by their own Homeland Security Act (HSA) which requires them to overrule civil liberties and incarcerate indefinitely suspects without notifying anyone, even next of kin.  Denying right to legal representation.

This affront to basic liberties and due process will be further strengthened by a bill before congress that will allow the U.S. military itself to indefinitely detain without habeas corpus (laying charges) ‘terrorism suspects’ not just in foreign lands but now on U.S. soil, inclulding American citizens.  It transfers full responsibility from the domestic legal system to the Military.  As well as banning any future transfers out of Guantanamo.

A full-blown military fascist state – which now includes Canadian soil.

A post script -  the thin edge of the wedge:

Once we let the American Military Machine onto our lands we will never get them off.
