Syria...
I don't have too much to say regarding Syria. I hope everyone is following what is happening. The fact that Syria's navy is now firing heavy artillery indiscriminately into populated areas is obviously a war crime. Certainly Assad should be held to account, but I think the leaders within the GPC need to be more vociferous regarding our opposition to what is happening in Syria.
Not everything requires R2P, the West isn't the world's police, and NATO is occupied in Libya anyway. I think maybe the GPC should be calling on the Arab League to actually do something for once that resembles compassion for their fellow constituency. The Arab League is certainly in a position to make Syria's leadership a living hell if he doesn't immediately back down.
Turkey is useless. Their idea of putting their foot down is to demand that Assad immediately cease his attacks. Except by "immediately" they mean 2 or 3 more weeks. It is apparent that Turkey is slowly aligning itself with Iran, a sponsor of Syria. So the only real chance for morality to show its face in Syria is if the Arab League gets involved. Right now the Arab League seems more like the Arab Leaders League, because they don't care about the people who are supposed to be represented by the organization.
Regardless, the GPC leadership needs to do something to get our government and other governments around the world to do something meaningful. Travel bans on Syria's leadership are meaningless. It's not like Assad is going to vacation in Europe right now.

Yeah the Arab League and the
Yeah the Arab League and the west are in **words** mode.
It is possible that Assad is firing on rebellious army units. If so, the western press would be loath to give opposition elements a possible use of civilian **illegal human shields ** frame of reference.
