Neither Toyota nor Ford required a bailout and both were highly critical of it.
Toyota has billions of cash in the bank and has diversified market structure.
It has its work cut out for it in NA, and may have some short term pains (such as stopping assembly at the plants while the pedals are being redesigned.) but other than that will recover.
It has one of the highest consumer loyalty rates of any auto company, and while new buyers may be turned off for awhile.
