Environmental Sustainability

Isn't the U.S. automotive sector crisis an indicator that we are not moving in the right direction when it comes to environmental sustainability? Chrysler, GM and Ford cars are just generally too big, too expensive and too complicated to assemble and they do not reflect the idea of optimal environmental sustainability still. We are, in general, still just to loose. What we make is not compact enough, the matter we spend to generate energy is still too "dirty", we pollute in too filthy a way and we don't recycle 100% of what we use up. If we would achieve 100% of environmental sustainability wouldn't that be equal to making way for achieving 100% health for human beings and 100% chances to do smart things?
