Roxana Saberi is an American journalist with dual Iranian-American citizenship who has been imprisoned in Iran since late January. On April 18, based on a closed, one day trial, Ms. Saberi was sentenced to eight years in prison for charges of spying for the United States, a charge the White House vigorously denies as "baseless." Ms. Saberi is now on a hunger strike until her release. Please urge the Iranian government to release Roxana Saberi immediately - sign the petition today. -

Ari, when I read your blog initially, I was moved to spead this appeal through my own network but decided to check things out and visit the petition site. Then I looked for other news and found two more references that might be important regarding the freeing of Ms. Saberi.

I just caution people to get the fullest possible picture of what may be happening here before deciding to take any action. Too much negative attention towards Iran can perhaps be counter-productive. I say this while fully desirous that Ms. Saberi be free as soon as possible and allowed to continue her life work in journalism.
