Green Party #1 search - Google Canada's Zeitgeist 2008 page

Zeitgeist proof that the Green Party of Canada has broken into the Canadian political consciousness and is top of mind! For Google Canada's Zeitgeist 2008 page, see: "Canada Zeitgeist" at http://www.google.com/intl/en/press/zeitgeist2008/... (scroll down to Canada>Canada Zeitgeist)
Their Zeitgeist is one measure of relevance online. It is, as is the net as a whole, skewed toward younger Canadians and picks up on trends, curiosity and novelty as much as knowledge but our first place showing is good news for Greens. Good news and a call to action: are green searches finding the whole-food diet they need to truly sustain their political health and vitality? Are green curious learning that their vote is empowering, an important part of their social life and in fact a responsibility necessary for their own well-being? Are green surfers returning, satisfied with their first visit, in anticipation of new and exciting politically motivating and nurturing content? Most importantly are we using our opportunity to win votes? I was moved last October to move beyond voting Green to activism in large part because I perceived a lack of Green web presence so I have as my starting point a critical bias that we are not doing enough. We are cupping our hands to catch the buckets trickling through the broken dam: we need a plan to collect and store this valuable (metaphoric) water. A storm has gathered, a dam is broken, old rivers are redrawing their courses: we are living through a paradigm shift in Canadian politics. Elizabeth and others have energized voters in a few ridings, there are many more in which the Green Party is drawing 8-12% of the electorate with very little media penetration of Green policy. We have an historic opportunity to represent Canadians in coalition governments to come now that psychological barriers to thinking coalitions in Canada have been broken through. "Carpe diem" (seize the day!) Greens.

Internet savvy

I am in agreement here.
I'd like to have some input. The Greens need a much greater web presence. There are more people online than buying newspapers and watching the news on TV. Many of us are not at all satisfied with main stream media. We would rather locate the source for ourselves so that the information we read is without media spin.

I am one of those people who used Google for my first visit to this site. I was elated by the Green Party Platform. At 60+ years of age, I was finally motivated to join a politcal party in this country. I'm one of those 'back-to-the-land' hippies who got older. I keep returning to re-energize and motivate others. The message is great. It just needs to reach more Canadians. Barack Obama's Internet campaign model in the US might be of great help.

So many of us have our own blogs to which we could add Green Party links or Feeds. Let us help. We also visit many other web sites and blogs where we can share the message. Many of us contribute regularly to International blogs. You have no idea how many people read these sites on a daily basis. Green policies more appealing to more people every day.

The Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ is a daily MUST for my demographic.
WOWoWOW a group for women over 40 http://www.wowowow.com/home is where I meet people who truly want to make a change in the world. This site has International members. Some of the BEST information on these sites is shared in the comments rather than the articles.

The Green Party may also like to take a look at http://change.gov/ This is the Obama Transition Team web site.
Canada is only one player in the Global Community. We all must work together.

Thank you Bruce Livingstone (great name) for starting this thread.

It is a cyber world. That alone saves trees.
