Legalize It Bulletin

Dear NORML supporters,

NORML launched the first lawsuit to recognize medical cannabis as a medicine in 1972, so it with great joy to discover yesterday morning that the Obama Administration would be releasing a three page memo affirming his support for medical access to cannabis and allowing states greater autonomy in implementing their medical cannabis programs.

This is major news and a historic change in the federal government's 72-year anti-cannabis policies.

Read more and see an AP video at:

Thanks for your kind support!

Cannabem liberemus,

Allen St. Pierre
Executive Director
NORML
Washington, DC

**Please take a moment to thank the President

He is formalizing his campaign pledge to make the federal enforcement of marijuana laws a low priority in states that have enacted legal protections for medical cannabis patients and their providers.

For your convenience, a PRE-WRITTEN LETTER will be e-mailed to President Obama when you click here:http://capwiz.com/norml2/issues/alert/?alertid=14205391

While the instructions in this memo still leave discretion up to individual prosecutors, the tone of the letter makes it clear that moving forward on such cases is discouraged.

If you call, please be respectful and polite. Please leave your name and where you are from. Tell the President:

"Thank you for discouraging the use of federal resources to improperly target and prosecute medical marijuana patients and their providers who are compliant with state law. Please consider making these guidelines federal law by urging Congress to move expeditiously to pass House Bill 2835, The Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act of 2009, which would ensure -- once
and for all -- that medical cannabis patients in states that have approved its use will no longer have to fear arrest or prosecution from federal law enforcement agencies."

Thank you for assisting NORML's federal law reform efforts.

SUBJECT: Protect Medical Marijuana Patients

Thank you for formalizing guidelines that seek to protect medical marijuana patients and providers who are compliance with state law. Thirteen states have enacted such protections, and hundreds of thousands of patients are now using marijuana legally under state law. These patients should not live in
fear of the federal government.

While these guidelines send a strong message of tolerance, they lack the authority of federal law. Please consider making these guidelines permanent by urging Congress to move expeditiously to pass House Bill 2835, The Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act of 2009, which would ensure -- once and for all -- that medical cannabis patients in states that have approved its use will no longer have to fear arrest or prosecution from federal law
enforcement agencies.

Thank you again for taking action of this important human rights issue.

etiquette

No worries, just wanted to stress the benefit of good posting etiquette when posting. If you want the post to be effective and non-confusing you should take the time to describe your sources (i.e. who is NORML and why is their content on our site?) and link to original content as best you can.

I've added a quoting button to the interface of the editor so you can format content that is excerpted from external sources appropriately. Should help identify what is external and what is your comments.
