Canada considering setting up international military bases
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/06/02/pol-military-bases.html
"Canada is looking at setting up bases around the world to better position the military to participate in international missions, Defence Minister Peter MacKay confirmed Thursday."
The issue here is not the existence or establishing of military bases but what they are used for. For us in the Greens these would be accessible for international relief efforts, faster deployment of DART and any peacekeeping missions we would participate in. However it must be recognized that the Conservative government and the previous liberal government have moved Canada onto a more aggressive military path involving Afghanistan, Haiti, and now Libya with more to come.
It is our job to question the use of these bases and affirm our belief that they should ONLY be used for peacekeeping and humanitarian relief efforts.
